Oh hey I was gonna do a Christmas post wasn't I.

Well, better late than never!

Spoils:

  • Shirts. One of which is an Avatar shirt, lol. I've never even seen the movie.

  • A kickass jacket.

  • $50 Barnes & Noble gift card. Bought And Another Thing, A Wrinkle In Time, and The Sorceress with it. $8 remaining.

  • $50 in Wal Mart gift cards. Used to buy a prepaid WoW card. $20 remaining.

  • A Classic Controller for the Wii.

  • Socks and underwear. You would not believe how much I actually needed these.

  • A metric fuckton of sweets. They're all gone now.

  • A bunch of hygiene stuff that I'll be needing for the dorm.

  • A microwave! (Okay, it wasn't actually a christmas gift, we got it a few days after christmas. But it's still awesome!)

And technically the laptop and external hard drive were early christmas gifts.

IN OTHER NEWS: I leave on sunday holy shit holy shit holy shit.

Nervous as all hell, but I guess it's going to be alright.

I just wish my fucking loan would disburse so I could have the money to pay the bill and not owe the school just under $5000. >|

So I decided that, if my Dad and Stepmom bug me for a Christmas list again this year, I'm going to ask for replacements of all those books my Dad got rid of that I used to own.

So I'm digging through old LJ entries and stuff looking for hints and reminders of the stuff that's missing. Curse my imperfect memory.

So far confirmed missing are:

1. Understanding Comics (Scott McCloud)
2. Reinventing Comics (Scott McCloud)
3. More manga than I frankly care to replace. Including volumes of Case Closed, Naruto, and Yu-Gi-Oh (some dating as far back as our first Uwajimaya field trip in High School!)
4. A Wrinkle In Time (Madeline L'Engle)
5. Godless (Pete Hautman)
6. A few volumes of Animorphs, Everworld, and Remnants (K.A. Applegate)
7. A Horse And His Boy, Prince Caspian (C.S. Lewis)

3 and 6 I'm not going to ask for because there were too many. 5 I won't ask for because I really don't care. 7 because I still won't have the complete series anyway. (Also applies to 6).

I really wish I had kept a record of the stuff I owned. I'm almost certain there are more books I owned that are gone now.

So I woke up to a message on my computer saying that my hard drive was low on space.

I wound up having to uninstall Mabinogi. I know that I don't actually play it anymore, but this makes me a bit sad. I did enjoy the game, after all, and there are a lot of fond memories there. I only quit because I didn't have anyone to play with anymore, which continues to be the only thing holding me back from it-- combined, perhaps, with my inability to afford the Fantasy Life Package. Painful as it is, 900 megabytes' worth of a game I'm not active in anymore just isn't going to cut it.

SMT: Imagine was an okay experience, but at over 3,500 megabytes? Fuck that. I deleted that shit with prejudice. After saving a few songs from the soundtrack, of course.

And of course lol, the BIGGEST thing on there was World of Warcraft, clocking at over 16,000 megabytes. But I can't delete that because I have very specific plans of coming back once I can afford it, orz.

And on another note entirely:

WHY AM I ALWAYS THE LAST TO HEAR ABOUT THESE THINGS.

I think I'm the only one that's not inordinately worried about this. H2G2 needed a stronger conclusion, and Adams planned on writing one before he, um. Died. I see no particular reason to think that Colfer won't kick ass at this.

Remember all those books I had at my dad's before moving out, which I had thought he'd given to Goodwill?

Almost every single one of them turned up today. Turns out, there was a miscommunication, because he told me he only gave the really old, little-kid books away.

Translation: I now have all my Young Wizards books (the entire series, oh god I'm so happy), books two and three of the Artemis Fowl series that I'd been missing, my copy of Voyage of the Dawn Treader which I had thought lost, my copies of Holes and The Wish List, both of which I hadn't even realized I was missing, but I am still VERY glad are back, and this book I had all but forgotten about called The Supernaturalist.

I recall there being a book called Godless, which didn't turn up here... which is just as well, because it wasn't that great of a story and I don't really miss it. Just would be nice to have it, I guess. There were also a few books in the Remnants series that I had, only one of which turned up... but I never finished that series anyways, so I'd have an incomplete collection either way.

EDIT: I seem to be missing High Wizardry, so I guess I don't have the entire Young Wizards series back... but holy crap, I thought those books were lost forever!

So I got a ton of books today. Among them is War of the Ancients-- it's a compilation of three books, and hoooooly shit this thing is huge.

I also got some other books I've been looking forward to reading.

I haven't had this warm fuzzy feeling since I first saw how thick Order of the Phoenix was. X3

The book arrived today.

For the next week or so, either I'm not going to be able to concentrate on it, or I'm not going to be able to concentrate on anything else.

So I just finished my marathon re-read of the Wicked series today (Wicked and Son of a Witch); and guess what? I just found out that there is now a third book in the series, and it was released just last month.

Omfgbbq.

Sorry, Taylor, but I had to have it, so I made a small dent in that Borders card to order it online. The card's still got more than $30 on it, though. ^^;;;

It should be arriving within a week. >w< \m/

So, Gaia Online has been tracking the development of its new evolving items through site-wide announcements of late. I was traipsing through the forums, when I come across a topic complaining about them, and I noticed that, in doing so, the person in question had made a not-so-subtle jab at one of my favorite book series, which Gaia has recently held a promotional event for.

"Way to be neutral, Gaia.
First its a movie/book quest in which the author subtly shoves his atheistic views in (yeah, in the end, he basically writes that his characters kill God. GG, Gaia. :| ), and now its evolution."
[cut for length and being on-topic.]

My response )

Soooo... I finished the His Dark Materials series. It was fucking epic. I highly recommend it. Philip Pullman, if you didn't know.

So, shortly after I begin reading the first book, I hear there's going to be a movie based on it.

Lol, they turned it into a meme. )

Keep in mind that it actually CHANGES based on your answers, so please don't answer if you're not serious. (I played around with it a bit, and it changed on me... it took me FOREVER to get it back into the first form that the quiz gave me. X-x)

Although, if I really had one, it'd probably be in the form of a dragon. Not sure why, but that seems to fit in some way.

EDIT: I want a replica of the Alethiometer now. I am THAT much of a geek. >.>'

I finished The Subtle Knife on the bus ride to school this morning, then picked up The Amber Spyglass in the afternoon.

Life is good.

Whooo!

First off: Icon. X3

Second: I started playing FlyFF. Is there anybody else who, reading this right now, was not previously aware of this fact, and also plays? I need more friends on that game. Srsly. >>;;;

Third: I bought, read, and subsequently finished Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass. Argh, now I want to read the next book, but I don't have the money to get it. ><;

Fourth: Brawl is going to have a Stage Editor. FUCK YES.

Yet another reason for me to whine about not having a Wii. <<;

Fifth: I got my first absentee ballot in the mail a bit ago. Funny, I've procrastinated so long on registering to vote, but now that I've finally done it, I find myself... woefully underinformed. I don't even know what most of the positions ARE, let alone who the people running for them are, and FORGET the best candidates among them. And that's not even getting into all the initiatives/referendums/what have yous. I feel like I've dropped the political ball here. What would my AP Government teacher say if she knew? <<;;;

What else. I'm certain there was something else, but it escapes me at the moment. So I'm just gonna leave it at that.

I talked about it with [livejournal.com profile] hieadenna over MSN a bit, so now I want your opinions.

Would I be in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff?

(I s'pose you can talk about which house you would be in too. XP)

Well, lovely. A troll in one of my communities has posted a huge spoiler entry on the upcoming HP book. I didn't read it though (more than a few words), and I'll delete said community from my friends list for the time being.

I hate the internet sometimes.

Bleah. First off, I'm getting tired of leaving my Dad's house angry. I always go there thinking that I've exaggerated the troubles within my mind, and that it couldn't possibly be that bad... then I go there, and he CONSISTENTLY proves me wrong. I leave in a huff, and through the following week I cool off just enough to start the cycle over again. DAMMIT. Somebody stop the ride, I wanna get off. ><

Second, I finished Son of a Witch. And... I loved it. ^____^ I especially liked the romance between Liir and Trism, I thought that was really cool. And it's completely different from the first book in that-- Wicked pretty much gave closure and catharsis to the story, and a sequel was the last thing I expected, so that when I saw there WAS a sequel, it surprised the hell out of me. But Son of a Witch leaves NOTHING closed, there are just so many little things left open, they all coalesce, so that the ending is just one big loose end-- so now it feels like there HAS to be another book, when there's little to no chance there will be. Dammit. But I loved it.

Third, snow. Since I couldn't get on LJ last week, I couldn't write about it, but there was SNOW last week. HERE. That's saying something-- we don't get much in the way of snow where I live, and last year was an especially bleak year in that sense. But on Tuesday, we got a TON of snow, about during third period. That's AP Lit for me, and the flakes were absolutely huge. Ms. Dann was trying to keep us concentrating on the discussion, but everybody was distracted by the snow, so finally she let us get it out of our system-- "Alright, everybody, I want you to write down one simile to describe the snow. Write it on your notes." My simile-- the snow is like a shower of feathers. (And it really WAS.) That's when I thought to myself, If I see a red one, someone's gonna DIE. (I can feel Michael disowning me for that. XD) But yeah. We actually went outside into the snow during that period, because we were reading lines from a play and we had to shout. Got soaked, naturally. Then I saw Michael outside acting like an idiot, catching snowflakes on the tongue and such. Brilliant.

That snow didn't last long, though-- in fact, it had died by the end of that period. BUT. It snowed a TON on thursday (started at about the same time as on tuesday), and it stuck, and hung around all day. Next day was a snow day, but I would just as soon have gone to school for all the fun I had. The snow stubbornly resisted melting completely all weekend, even though not enough remained for another snow day. Not that I minded terribly.

Parental units have been bugging me about a christmas list. Ironically, I always have a hard time thinking of stuff to put on these lists, since I usually lack an idea of what to ask for. Buh, whatever.

Before I forget-- I have been inspired by Taylor to write about a geeky .hack-related dream I had this weekend. Well, it's only a snippet of a dream-- I can't recall dreams with the length and accuracy that Taylor apparently can. >___<
yaaaay for geekiness )

As a brief aside, I saw the Viewtiful Joe anime this saturday. Scary.

God. Ever notice how I don't make an entry unless I have a ton of stuff to say? that's why I don't update very often. >__<;; Guh, I need to shorten my entries.

No real checklist update today... except that I lied when I first checked off the Hamlet Journal item, but it really is finished now. >.>'

Anyways, we took the final last week, and I don't think I did that bad on it. Then we got Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead to read over the weekend, that was kinda funny. And we had a party-like day on friday as celebration for finishing the Hamlet unit. We got cookies, donuts, pretzels, and we're watching The Renaissance Man. W00t for teacher-sanctioned goofing off in class! ^^

Also, if you haven't noticed yet (you probably haven't if you're viewing this entry through your friends page), I made a christmas remix of my old background, partly in celebration of the christmas season, but mostly as a celebration of the fact that I FINALLY GOT PHOTOSHOP AGAIN! ^___________^ So yes. W00t.

And, on that note, I also made a new icon. Ph33r. X3

Went to Barnes & Noble friday to get a few things. New line-up for today: Son of a Witch (sequel to Wicked), by Gregory Maguire, Wizards at War by Diane Duane, and... Hamlet. Since I'm going to have to return the school copy next week. I've done scattered reading of all three over the weekend, mostly when I should have been doing homework. ^^

Hm. What else...? Oyeah-- I made it to the final battle on .hack//MUTATION the other day. Got pwned, and haven't bothered to try again because I've been working on homework.

Eh, that's about it. I gotta go get breakfast now. x_x

Wow.

Apparently, it's been exactly two weeks since my last update. >.>;;

First off-- I moved into the room downstairs. I have internet, plus cable and my own bathroom now. It would be 100% effin' cool, if not for the fact that my brand new wireless connection is a little... shall I say, sensitive. ><

Second-- I just listened to the Advent Children version of One Winged Angel, and it thouroughly ROCKS. ^______^ I love the new lyrics.

Third-- Apparently, my N64's RFU adaptor is fried, so not only can I not play N64, but I also can't use my precious Gamecube. ;_;

Fourth-- I am actually satisfied with the Naruto dub. Not only did they pronounce "Sharingan" correctly, but they said it with a Japanese-style "r" sound. ^^

Fifth-- I watched the Hitchhiker's Guide movie last week. I have to say, I consider myself an H2G2 purist, but that was the first book-to-movie in history that I have actually been satisfied with. Nothing of vital importance was removed that didn't remain in the deleted scenes, except for the Guide entry on towels; that was the only glaring omission. Besides all that, they actually added to the plot, without taking very much out. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy recieves the coveted Majutsukai Stamp of Approvalâ„¢. ^______^

I've been wanting to update for a while, but have lacked the motivation. Well, now I've done it. x_x

Bleh. I don't have a lot to say. My dad decided that since I don't have my license yet (and as he and my stepmom reason, despite my protests, won't), it was time that I start learning how to use the bus system. So, this week was filled with extremely tiring and exasperating research-based "homework" that involved finding bus routes from one specific place to another, and finding out how the fare system works. It took three or four days for me to get it right, since I tried it one day and he nitpicked it to a million pieces and told me to do it right the next day. We actually got into a fight over a misunderstanding we had with his directions, and my stepmom said that she had never heard us yelling at eachother like that. I still believe that I'm right, but I stopped fighting back since I'd have a considerably better chance of convincing a brick wall. Those who know my dad would be nodding in agreement and smiling knowingly right now. ^^;

Yeah. He also decided to get me up when he left for work the last two days because I didn't get up at a time he liked. That means I had to wake up at 6:30. For a grand total of 5 hours of sleep each night. This is even after I showed visible constraint and didn't go to bed at my favorite bedtime, 3:00. I would be HURTING right now if I didn't do that.

So, generally, I'm mad at my dad right now. I could rant on and on for several pages about all of the things he does that absolutely infuriates me, but I'll hold it back for now. It's a strain on my already weakening willpower, but I'll manage.

Otherwise, not a whole hell of a lot's going on. I recently got back into my dust-gathering Animorphs collection that I hadn't touched since elementary school. I own every book 1-30, including Megamorphs, the Andalite and Hork-Bajir Chronicles, and Alternamorphs (blech), except 4-11, which are the ones that my elementary school's library had, so I didn't need to buy them. In all the books past number one, the writing is fairly good, despite all the inevitable slang-based difficulties pre-requisite to books written in the early 90's. The first book had a lot of plot to introduce in a very short span of book (maybe as thick as your palm), so it seemed a bit rushed in spots, and was generally not very good, but it ironed out later. I may be reading under my level, but I like it for the nostalgia value. I still think that Applegate's Everworld series is much better than Animorphs.

I also beat Viewtiful Joe today. I didn't save after the final battle because I missed a lot of the dialogue in the last scene before the battle (courtesy of my talky stepsister, whom I hadn't seen in a while, coming into my room at that moment), so I'll have to fight the dissapointingly easy King Blue battle, and the moderately difficult Captain Blue battle, again.

And as a final note, I've started on a Megaman spriting project, hereby titled "Megaman Next". It started out when I decided out of the blue to make an 8-bit sprite of Milkman, a mock robot master from a Megaman flash I saw, then one of Bibleman-- an actual bible-based superhero you can watch on tv (hella funny stuff). The idea sparked in my head to make 8 custom Robot Masters and put them on a Megaman Stage Select screen. From there came Blademan Man (A shameless Homestar reference), w00tman, PoliticianMan (Name idea courtesy of Taylor ^^), Ushiman (ANYBODY in my group of friends will get this joke), Cinderellaman (neither a boxer, nor indeed a man as her name would imply), and PhDman (Someone I invented just so Bibleman could have a punchline-worthy weakness). I'm going to design a weapon order, and I've started with preliminary ideas for what their stages will be like. I've even done some of the boss chambers for an MMN sprite comic idea I had but will probably not do. It's difficult coming up with so many tilesets when all I have to use is edited Megaman 1 tiles. x_x

Er... I guess I DID have a lot to say. How bout that.
