Firefoxian Elitism (noun): The odd little assumption that Firefox is the standard by which one should judge all other browsers and what they ought and ought not be able to do; i.e., if something only works correctly in Firefox, then it's something wrong with all the other web browsers, not with Firefox. The fault is on the other browsers for not being able to display something that Firefox can. If a site will only display in Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer, then it's cutting edge and modern, but if a site will only display in Internet Explorer and not in Firefox, then it's clunky and outdated. It's perfectly okay for a site to turn users away telling them to get Firefox before they can view it (I'm not exaggerating, people actually do this), but it's a grievous sin for a site to ask users to use Internet Explorer to view it.
Firefoxian Elitism is one of the main reasons I refuse to use Firefox. Call me petty for it if you will, but there it is.

Date: 2007-10-08 05:28 pm (UTC)I suppose the same could be said for avid IE supporters (yes, there are some out there. They're usually grouped with the people that believe Windows is the end all be all and Bill Gates could do no wrong) Some sites only support IE. Well, what the hell am I supposed to do? I'm on Linux! That means I have to switch over to my Windows partition in order to view it. Or people with Apple. I dunno how Opera works, but, yeah.
Anyway, The reason most people thing IE is superior is because of all of the problems IE 6 had. I haven't played with IE 7, but I do recall fondly calling IE6 Internet Exploder, due to the frequent inexplicable errors I would get. IE would also get impatient and tell me a download was complete when it wasn't if it was taking too long. So, I switched to Firefox. I will admit that Firefox isn't perfect, but I have been happier with it.

Date: 2007-10-08 06:54 pm (UTC)For some reason IE loads MUCH quicker than FF does on my PC. (Unless I already have a FF window open, then it's pretty damn fast.)
Maybe it's just because I've used IE for like... 9 years now? XD But I like it. (though I use FF when I go to Questionable sites and such, since it's supposed to have supperior security? o_O)

Date: 2007-10-08 09:14 pm (UTC)Now, what I think needs to be dealt with more seriously are Elitists. Personally, I think there should be a low tolerance for Elitism worldwide--perhaps two strikes, you're out. A severe warning and minor punishment for first-time Elites, and death for repeat offenders.
