(Edit: I've updated this with some newer information gained in the few days of playing around I had after writing this.)

Okay so I've been participating in the Open Beta of FFXIV, and I just finished the last of the three opening storylines, so I want to opine about it a bit. )

Great, now I'm going to be randomly cracking up at the most inappropriate times when I suddenly remember lines from this video. I hope you're all happy.

So, I had a brief conversation on this subject the other day over Twitter, but Twitter's text limits are so draconian that I couldn't really go into detail on the subject. So I'm gonna talk about it on here! :D

In the latest Heroes episode, the subject of Synaesthesia came up. Having Synaesthesia myself, I wanted to take a moment to talk about my experiences with it.

Cut for length )

So Taylor got me hooked on Heroes and I've spent the past week catching up on all three seasons (goddamn you). I just finished watching the most recent episode last night, and now I'm ready to opine about it on my journal.

I shouldn't have to say that there are probably spoilers in this.

Cut because I expect this to be long. )

So. In what appears to be a temporary lapse in sanity, I've decided that I think I want to revive my old game project, Project Oracle. REMEMBER THAT OLD THING, GUYS?

I'm a much better writer now, I have a better handle on the difference between good ideas and bad ideas, I know a bit more about game design, I have better access to sound and graphics assets, and I generally know my head from my ass much better when it comes to technology than I was in High School when I started this thing. I'm kinda dying to get my hands dirty and make this thing not suck.

I still don't know how to balance a game, though, orz. I guess I'll have to improvise. Unless anyone knows how to balance stats in RPG Maker 2003? Heh, yeah, I'm not banking on it. Right now the game is on the wrong side of way too fucking easy.

However. What started as a self-insertion story involving me and my friends, I think I'm going to revise into an original story with original characters. Characters BASED on me and my friends, granted, but the cheese factor should be significantly reduced.

The basic story's still contrived and unoriginal, but I think I'm going to stop caring. I'm sure a lampshade here and there will make it all better. 8D

I'm already coming up with tons of ideas. )

^ Check out the cut if you're interested in the details of the game.

So since Taylor is starting her Warcraft writing project, and I got inspired to create my own original character to go along with my WoW character... I wrote out a short scene involving him and Malygos, the fractured leader of the Blue Dragonflight. I figured I'd post it here. Is this what they call... drabble?

If you want more info on the character, you can read my comments in her entry for a basic overview of him. You can also check out The Blue Dragonflight and Malygos on WoWWiki.

Anyways, without further ado...

Whee, many things.

First: I made a modest title screen for Megaman Next, and I overhauled the stage select screen.

Clicky clicky yo. )

I've decided that I may make a sprite comic out of this after all, and make it a joint project with Taylor and Michael.

Second: I finally got to play my new NES, and it's fekking AWESOME. But I'm feeling the distinct sting of not having the option of using save states with Krion Conquest. ><
Apparently, this thing wasn't made by Nintendo. I'm not complaining about that, it's a spiffy little number, and it works fine. But it was originally designed for Japanese carts, which are considerably smaller than US carts, and it requires a rather large adaptor to use US carts. Not a friendly combination. The end result is that the cartridge sticks out further than the actual console is wide. With such a high center of gravity, and with the fact that it connects outside of the console with the adaptor, the cart is very sensitive to movement. A small nudge is enough to crash the game. The official term among my group of friends for crashing it in this way is "bleep". ^^;

Third: I got my classes. ^^ I have:

-semester 1-

Per. 1 - Adv. Japanese
Per. 2 - Physics
Per. 3 - AP Lit and Comp
Per. 4 - AP US Gov't/Politics

-semester 2-

Per. 1 - Adv. Japanese
Per. 2 - Psychology
Per. 3 - AP Lit and Comp
Per. 4 - AP US Gov't/Politics

whee, six out of my eight classes are full-year... which means that at the semester, I only change one class. x_x

Fourth: I went to Michael's Birthday party yesterday. There was much SSBM-ing and burger eating and NES Playing and Megaman discussions and cake and a whole bunch more ands than I care to go into detail about. T'was much fun. ^^

Fifth: I've started writing a Megaman/Megaman X story that's my interpretation of the connection between the original Megaman series and the X series. I'd post an excerpt, but I don't have enough written and this entry is getting long enough anyways.

Sixth, and finally: The "Anyone Out There" call from my last entry still stands. Comment!

Ha! I said I'd do it and I did it! ^______________^

Whooooo... There's not much to do. >_<

In light of my recently procured photobucket account, I've decided to put the first Megaman Next (fake) screenshot up for the Majutsukai-reading public (a small minority, I'm aware) to see.

Press Start )

I've started picking out a soundtrack, and designing stages (in my head at least), but this is not going to become an actual game. It's just a parody work.

Other than that, I got HP6 yesterday. ^_________^ It's taking Herculean effort not to just finish it off very quickly, because the story is very interesting. I loves it! :p

I've actually managed to get used to this wierd schedule... That doesn't mean I'm happy about not being able to sleep in like the other half of the students, but hey, whatever.

I managed to screw up last week's note, though. Got three out of the four signatures I needed, then gave it to Jones-sensei, and never got it back. x_x So, this weekend was kind of boring. And I managed to get a truckload of homework, even despite having only half my classes. -_-

I'm thinking now that I want to post chapter three of the scriptures... but I don't really know if I'm done making all the alterations I want to. Ah, I suppose I'll post what I have.

Chapter 3: The Development of Religion )

Yeah, this one's really short compared to the other chapters.

Over the weekend, I had to do a homework assignment for Mythology on my philosophy concerning good and evil. It was, despite all expectations, kind of fun. >_< Never thought I'd be saying that about something we were assigned in Mythology. Anyways, I borrowed a little bit from what has now earned the name "Sartenian Philosophy", which is not intrinsically related to my myths, but rather it's philosophy I came up with while inventing the myths. I just may post a little exposé on it later on, cuz I'm actually kind of proud of it. ^^
...however, I'm supposed to present it in front of class on tuesday. Which I plan on refusing to do.

Okay, got the chapter now. This one explains not only the origin of Humans, but of reptiles, hell, sexism, stuff like that... it may be worth it to note that this does not condone sexism, just attempts to explain where it came from. The first chapter was two pages or less, but this one's three and a half. x_x
Enjoy!

Chapter 2: The Creation of Humans )

I may post chapter 3 some time in the near future, too.
majutsukai: (Default)
OK, here's the deal.
I've always had a fair amount of interest in mythology. That's why, since last semester, I've been working on my own set of myths based on my beliefs and values. In light of a recent assignment in Mythology class, which requires us to create our own creation myth, I decided to put some of the ideas in writing.
It's difficult to understand some of it without knowing the backstory. I've heard several theories being thrown around about how if there's a real god in heaven, he's evil. So, I thought to myself, "How would that work?", and Sartenian mythology was born. I eventually drifted away from that original idea, since one of the primary philosophies in Sartenian mythology is that there is no such thing as real evil. However, I've written enough in it that I've decided to share it with the world. so, submitted for your approval, I present to you:
Chapter One: The Creation of the Universe, and of Life )
As you can probably tell, I meant it also to be a unification and explanation of all the world's mythologies. You can expect a chapter on the development of religion later on. But the next chapter is the creation of humans, which I'm almost finished with.
