Apr. 25th, 2005 09:19 amI've actually managed to get used to this wierd schedule... That doesn't mean I'm happy about not being able to sleep in like the other half of the students, but hey, whatever.
I managed to screw up last week's note, though. Got three out of the four signatures I needed, then gave it to Jones-sensei, and never got it back. x_x So, this weekend was kind of boring. And I managed to get a truckload of homework, even despite having only half my classes. -_-
I'm thinking now that I want to post chapter three of the scriptures... but I don't really know if I'm done making all the alterations I want to. Ah, I suppose I'll post what I have.
Adam and Eve eventually raised a family, and many people descended from them. These people spread out to different regions of the world, and ages passed until Adam died, and with him died the secret of the Apple. More ages still went by, and people eventually spread to every corner of the world.
With so many people to keep track of, it became rather a chore for Arkelis to rule over all the humans at once; and so, he addressed the other gods and goddesses.
“I wish to ask a favor of you all,” he said to them. “I need underlings to rule over different regions of the world for me, in order to keep track of all the humans of the world. You will, of course, be duly rewarded for your deeds.”
The deities of the Order easily agreed to the promise of both land to rule over and a reward from Arkelis; and so, he divided the land among them. To Gaea and her children, he gave the land which would one day be known as Greece; to Buri and his descendants went the far northern lands of Norway and Sweden. Quetzalcoatl received the land that is now called Mexico, and the goddess Nugua received China. Izanagi, Izanami, and their daughter Amaterasu gained rule over the small island now known as Japan, and the sun god Ra and his wife, Nut, received the isolated land that came to be known as Egypt.
The land was divided among all of the deities in a similar way until every region had at least one god or goddess to rule it. Arkelis instructed them to spread his teachings to all of the people of their individual lands, which they promised they would do. The reward they received for taking on this task was a small piece of Arkelis’s power, which they used in their rule over their respective regions.
Although they had promised to spread word of Arkelis, the gods and goddesses quickly became proud and arrogant from the power that had been given to them; and as such, they told not tales of Arkelis, but inflated tales of their own devising, in which they proclaimed to have created the earth and its people. The people, of course, believed them, and so they went on worshipping the gods and goddesses as the highest order of authority. Arkelis, who had decided to leave them to their own devices, did not check to make sure they were doing their jobs, and so belief of the Order’s stories flourished for many millennia.
Sartenia, however, was concerned with the growth of these false stories, which she believed no better than Arkelis’s false tales. And so, she decided to gather her own followers from the people of the world. She took many forms in her quest to garner a following, and enlisted the help of Lillith and her descendants. It took time, but she soon had a small following of people scattered among various regions of the world. These went by and large unnoticed by the Order, least of all Arkelis. They gathered together and built a large city in the lowlands, on an island in the middle of a large lake. This city was known as Atlantis, and it became the primary residence for Sartenia followers.
However, eventually it came time that Arkelis decided he would check how his underlings were faring in their ruling.
He was completely appalled at how little he was known of in the world, and he was enraged at people’s worshipping of the gods and goddesses whom he believed to be lesser. But most of all he was enraged by the comparatively large following that Sartenia had gained, when he had worked so hard to make sure people regarded her as an enemy. And so, he decided to purge the land of people that he deigned impure.
He selected two people from each culture that still followed him, and instructed them to gather two each of every species of animal in their surrounding regions, and then to build a solid ark in which they would float over the flood that Arkelis would summon from the Heavens. When this was done, he let a torrential downpour loose from the heavens, and the rains flooded the lowlands and drowned most of the people. The chosen few were instructed to sail to the highest mountains and settle there, and release the animals that they had saved.
The floodwaters killed off nearly all the followers of the other gods and goddesses; and of course Atlantis, and with it the last of the Sartenia followers, was buried beneath the sea of water.
The floodwaters that came of the flood, however, never receded. They still exist today, as the Oceans of the world. Most of the plant life that survived the flood eventually evolved to become sea-bound vegetation like seaweed and coral; the creatures from the lakes and riverbeds adapted and became the sea creatures that now inhabit the oceans. Most of the remains of civilization in the lowlands have ceased to exist, as cultures in those days still used wood as their primary building material. However, Atlantis was built of stone, and as such relics of its people still exist today, resting at the bottom of the ocean.
Arkelis decided never to allow what had transpired in the old world happen again; and as such he eventually instructed one of the descendants of the Survivors to write an account of his teachings, and inflated and biased tales of his doings. This work he named the Bible, and it still exists in varied forms today.
Yeah, this one's really short compared to the other chapters.
Over the weekend, I had to do a homework assignment for Mythology on my philosophy concerning good and evil. It was, despite all expectations, kind of fun. >_< Never thought I'd be saying that about something we were assigned in Mythology. Anyways, I borrowed a little bit from what has now earned the name "Sartenian Philosophy", which is not intrinsically related to my myths, but rather it's philosophy I came up with while inventing the myths. I just may post a little exposé on it later on, cuz I'm actually kind of proud of it. ^^
...however, I'm supposed to present it in front of class on tuesday. Which I plan on refusing to do.
