I know next to nothing about Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. And frankly, I don't care to. But here's the problem.

I know that it's the source of the whole "toki wo tomare" thing. I saw this quote, however, cited with the translation "Time has stopped" in not one, but two places. If you have a cursory knowledge of Japanese, you'll know that translation is incorrect. The translation should read "Stop time!", because "tomare" is the imperative form, not the causative form.

The first place was the TvTropes article "Time Stands Still", where it was a page quote. I left a note on the discussion page for that article asking if there were any objections to me correcting it. That note stayed there for two months with no responses, so I went ahead and changed it.

It got "corrected" back to the old, wrong translation the next day.

The second was in the Rosenkreuz Stilette wiki; the character Sichte Meister has the ability to stop time, and referentially uses this quote occasionally when she does it. I attempted to make the same change there about a month ago. Despite confirming on the discussion page with a site mod that my translation was more accurate, it has gotten reverted to the old one twice since then.

The person that did it finally noticed the discussion page-- where I'd been a bit vocal about my frustration-- the other day. His response was "Sorry for not knowing Japanese."

...If you don't know Japanese, then why did you "correct" me twice?

Ughhhh. I'm still waiting for a response on the TvTropes one, but the edit has yet to be reverted again.

What is the deal with this!? Why does this translation get so vigorously defended by people who know absolutely nothing about the language? You'd think it were holy canon or something.
